Our testing is essential for Sour Service (NACE MR-01-75) applications and the fabrication of Chrome/Moly alloys, where material brittleness must be strictly controlled to prevent failure.
Our 5 Comprehensive Hardness Testing Methods
- Rockwell Hardness Testing (HRC/HRB): A fast and reliable method that measures the permanent depth of indentation produced by a heavy load. It is ideal for high-volume production and heat-treated valve components.
- Brinell Hardness Testing (HBW): Utilized primarily for larger castings and forgings with coarse grain structures. By using a larger spherical indenter, it provides a more representative average hardness of the material.
- Vickers Hardness Testing (HV): A highly accurate micro-hardness test that uses a diamond pyramid indenter. It is perfect for testing very thin sections, surface coatings, or specific weld zones.
- Knoop Hardness Testing (HK): An alternative to Vickers, Knoop testing is used for brittle materials or very thin sheets where a narrow, elongated indentation is required to prevent material cracking during the test.
- Hardness Testing with Clemex: FlowBiz integrates Clemex Image Analysis software for automated, high-precision hardness mapping. This allows for digital verification and detailed reporting on microstructure hardness variations.
Specialized Testing for Sour Service & Alloys
- NACE MR-01-75 Compliance: For valves used in H2S (Sour Gas) environments, we perform strict hardness testing to ensure materials do not exceed the thresholds that lead to Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC).
